Dry food for dogs
Dry dog food is the most popular type of food for dogs. It is easy and the vast majority of dogs thrive on dry food. However, it is important to keep in mind that the quality of dry food can vary greatly from dry food to dry food. All dry food in Denmark meets the analytical requirements to contain the nutritional values that your dog needs. However, this does not mean that the quality of dry food is the same. Far from it. It is important to look at the quality of the ingredients because it means a lot for how easily the food is digestible.
Difference between high and low quality dry dog food
Protein is an important part of a dog food. Protein can be extracted from almost anything. But if the protein is, for example, only extracted from chicken feet, then the absorbability of the food will be very low. So even if on paper there is the same amount of protein as in another food, where, for example, the whole chicken is included, the dog will not get the same benefit from eating the dry food.
Cheap dry food for dogs
When a manufacturer can make a cheap dry food, it must be related to the quality of the ingredients. For example, it will be cheaper for a manufacturer to mainly use leftovers, such as chicken feet and beaks or other things. But the absorbability for your dog is not the same. A sign that the absorbability is low may be, for example, that your dog defecates more than with a high-quality dog food.
High quality dry food
A high quality dry food will often be more expensive to produce because the ingredients are more expensive. But when you feed your dog a high quality dry food you get more for your money. The absorbability will be higher and your dog will benefit from the nutrients.
Dry food for picky dogs
If your dog is picky, it may not want to eat its dry food and there may be several reasons for this. If the dry food is left out all day, the fats can go rancid. We humans cannot smell this, but your picky dog can. Therefore, it may be a good idea to offer your dog dry food several times during the day, but otherwise make sure that the dry food is packed in an airtight bag. It may also be an idea to try a different variant. For example, if your dog does not want to eat a dry food with fish, try one without. Or try a food with lots of flavor, such as lamb and duck, such as Acana Grasslands . If your dog does not want to eat dry food at all, fortunately there are other solutions. See, for example, our selection of wet food and freeze-dried barf
