Maintenance
It is recommended to brush a Havanese several times a week and bathe it approximately every 14 days to keep its coat clean, soft, and tangle-free.
Brushing
A Havanese has a long and silky coat that can easily tangle and form knots. Regular brushing is therefore necessary to keep the coat healthy and well-groomed. Always use gentle brushes, combs, and grooming products that do not damage the coat or skin.
Clipping
A Havanese can either be kept in the classic long show coat or clipped into a more practical everyday style.
With a long coat, a clear parting is often seen along the back, where the coat falls naturally down both sides of the body. The hair around the paws is trimmed to appear full and round, while the coat on the body is kept long enough so it doesn't drag on the ground.
It is also recommended to trim:
• Around the eyes to ensure clear vision
• Around the mouth to avoid food residue in the coat
• Around the paws for better grip and hygiene
• Around the hindquarters to keep the area clean
Special attention
Due to the length of the coat, it is particularly prone to tangles and knots. It is therefore important to keep the coat well-groomed and moisturized with conditioner or conditioning products, as dry coats break and tangle more easily.
Recommended grooming visits
It is recommended to visit a dog groomer every 6-8 weeks for bathing, blow-drying, detangling, and possibly trimming. Regular grooming visits help prevent tangles and make daily grooming easier.
Brushes for Bichon Havanese
Grooming the long coat of a Havanese is crucial for both appearance and well-being.
Thorough brushing several times a week with a suitable comb and brush helps keep the coat healthy, airy, and tangle-free.
If tangles or knots occur, it is beneficial to first apply a detangling spray and then work gently with a brush. This makes the detangling process more gentle and comfortable for the dog.

Shampoo and conditioner for Bichon Havanese
Regular baths are important to keep a Havanese clean and free from bad odor.
It is recommended to bathe a Havanese approximately every 3-4 weeks – especially if the coat is kept long.
A conditioner after bathing helps maintain moisture in the coat, prevent tangles, and protect its natural shine. At the same time, the coat becomes easier to comb and keep well-groomed between baths.

Trimming a Bichon Havanese
A Havanese has a long coat that grows continuously and therefore requires regular trimming or clipping to remain well-groomed and tangle-free.
Many choose to have the coat cut into a practical everyday style, which makes daily grooming easier and reduces the risk of knots. If you prefer the classic long Havanese coat, it requires frequent brushing and continuous maintenance.
It is especially recommended to trim:
• Around the eyes to ensure clear vision
• Around the mouth to prevent food residue in the coat
• Around the paws for better hygiene and footing
• Around the rear for cleanliness

General care for Shih Tzu
Eyes: Havanese with light coats can develop discoloration around the eyes due to tear staining. Daily cleaning of the eye area helps prevent stains and keep the coat tidy.
Ears: It is important to keep the ears clean as part of regular grooming to prevent irritation and discomfort.
Teeth: Regular brushing helps keep breath fresh and prevents tartar buildup.
Skin and coat: Havanese with light coats can be more sensitive to the sun's rays. Provide shade on hot days and keep the coat well-groomed and moisturized to prevent dryness.

Nail clippers for Bichon Havanese
The Havanese is a small dog with fine, relatively thin nails, which require smaller, precise nail clippers for safe trimming.
Smaller nail clippers provide better control and make it easy to trim in small, careful steps. This reduces the risk of hitting the quick and ensures a clean and neat result.
Choose nail clippers suitable for small/medium breeds to ensure maximum precision and safety during trimming.
